Australian cricketers continued to opt out of long-window Indian Premier League matches (IPL), which is going to be played next year from March 25, 2023, to May 28, 2023.
Following Mitchell Starc's withdrawal from this year's IPL, Australia's Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins apologised for missing IPL 2023 due to a busy schedule.

The right-arm pacer, who has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the last three seasons, has stated his absence from the IPL 2023.
"I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next year's IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup," wrote Cummins.

With back-to-back Australian players opting out of the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is under pressure, despite acquiring a separate two-and-a-half-month window in the Future Tours Program (FTP) 2023-27 to strengthen their domestic franchise league.
According to the newly announced FTP, there will be no scheduled international cricket during the designated IPL.
