Paths to T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals for South Africa, England and West Indies

With only two matches left in Group 2 of the Super Eight stage at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, all four teams still have a shot at making it to the semi-finals

South Africa

The Proteas remain undefeated in the tournament, yet their place in the semi-finals is not guaranteed. South Africa currently holds four points with a net run rate of +0.625. Their fate is entirely in their own hands; a win against the co-hosts, the West Indies, will secure their spot at the top of their group and set up a semi-final match against the second-place team in Group 1.

West Indies

For the West Indies, the task is straightforward: a victory over South Africa ensures their progression to the semi-finals. They have two points and a net run rate of +1.814. Even with a loss to South Africa, the West Indies could still qualify, but this would depend on the USA defeating England and the West Indies maintaining a superior net run rate compared to both the USA and England.

England

England, with two points and a net run rate of +0.412, will likely secure a semi-final berth if they defeat the USA in their final Super Eight match. However, a narrow win, coupled with a similarly close West Indies victory, could jeopardize their position based on net run rate. Nonetheless, a win should be sufficient for England to advance.

USA

The USA, despite having no points, still has a mathematical chance to reach the semi-finals. They must achieve a comprehensive victory over England in their final Super Eight match and surpass England's net run rate. Additionally, they need South Africa to win convincingly against the West Indies, causing the Caribbean team's net run rate to fall below that of the USA.
