Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, is poised to assume an important new role as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) starting in December.
Media reports suggest that Naqvi's appointment is likely a result of the ACC's rotational leadership system.
Jay Shah, who had served as ACC Chairman for three consecutive years and received a one-year extension earlier this January, was elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to a source who spoke to PTI, a recent meeting among ACC members discussed Naqvi’s imminent appointment as president. This new role will let him oversee several major tournaments, including the Asia Cup 2025, which will be held as a T20I event in India, followed by the ODI edition in Bangladesh in 2027.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term... When (Jay)Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over,” the source told PTI.
In addition to his role as PCB Chairman, Naqvi also serves as Pakistan's Interior Minister. With his upcoming presidency at the ACC, he will be managing three significant portfolios, reflecting his extensive experience and leadership capabilities.
The official announcement confirming Naqvi's presidency is anticipated to be made in the next ACC meeting, scheduled for October-November.
