Initially reluctant, Aaqib has now agreed to the role
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has convinced Aaqib Javed to take on the interim coaching responsibilities for the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
This development comes after the sudden resignation of Gary Kirsten ahead of the Australian tour. In Kirsten's absence, red-ball coach Jason Gillespie had temporarily stepped in, but he expressed unwillingness to extend his role to white-ball cricket. Consequently, the board approached Aaqib Javed.
Initially reluctant, Aaqib has now agreed to the role. Notably, Aaqib has been a vocal critic of dual responsibilities in the past.
When Misbah-ul-Haq had simultaneously taken on the roles of selector and head coach, Aaqib was one of his harshest critics. However, a significant difference lies in their coaching experience.
Aaqib has been coaching various teams for the past two decades, bringing extensive expertise to the table. In addition to coaching, Aaqib will also serve as a selector during the Zimbabwe and South Africa tours.
