PCB to honor previous administration's Asia Cup commitment: Zaka Ashraf

The election for the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to occur on June 27th, with Zaka Ashraf being the favourite for the position.

Ashraf, the potential future chairman of PCB, expressed strong opposition on Wednesday towards the proposed hybrid model for the Asia Cup. This model was put forth by the former management committee of PCB, led by Najam Sethi, after India declined to travel to Pakistan. Despite facing several challenges, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) ultimately approved the hybrid model. Under this approved arrangement, the first four matches of the tournament will be held in Pakistan, followed by a shift to Sri Lanka for nine matches, including the final. The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 31st to September 17th.

Ashraf's media talk on Wednesday initially raised concerns about potential obstacles for the Asia Cup. However, Ashraf has now clarified his stance on the matter.

While talking to Cricket Pakistan, he stated, "Personally, I am not in favor of the hybrid model for the Asia Cup. I believe Pakistan should host entire global event. Nevertheless, we will respect the commitment made by the previous PCB administration regarding the Asia Cup. The event will take place as announced by the Asian Cricket Council."

Ashraf also emphasized the desire for amicable relations with all cricketing nations, including India. However, the decision to send the team to India for the World Cup will be made after appropriate consultations at the relevant time, as stated by Zaka Ashraf.

Ashraf assured full support to Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, and acknowledged his talent by saying, "Babar Azam is among the world's best batsmen. We will fully support him."

As for the future of Pakistan Team Director, Mickey Arthur, Ashraf stated that a decision will be made once he assumes the position of Chairman.
