The USA secured a commanding victory over Canada in the T20 World Cup opener on Sunday at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. This triumph puts the co-hosts at the top of the points table with two points.

Their next challenge will be against Pakistan at the same venue on Thursday, June 6.

Canada, on the other hand, will aim for their first points when they face Ireland on Friday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Group A’s next match is set for Wednesday, June 5, between India and Ireland in New York.

In today's World Cup opening match Canada after being asked to bat first posted 194 runs after losing five wickets in the first innings. Navneet Dhaliwal scored 61 runs from 44 deliveries which included six fours and three sixes. Nicholas Kirton also scored 51 from 31 deliveries which included three fours and two sixes.

In reply, the co-hosts USA comfortably chased down the target in 17.4 overs, thanks to match-winning performances by Aaron Jones, who scored 94 runs from 40 deliveries with four boundaries and ten massive sixes, and Andries Gous, who contributed 65 runs from 46 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the super eights, which will feature 12 games, before the top two from each super eight group will qualify for the semi-finals. The final will be played in Barbados on June 29.
