The organizers and security officials are taking no chances regarding security for the high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The much-anticipated match is set for Sunday, June 9, in New York.
Security has become a major concern after a pro-ISIS group reportedly threatened to target the game. Despite no credible threats being identified, security measures will be heightened for the event.
According to an International news report, police snipers will be positioned at covert locations around the venue. The Nassau County Police Department will manage a large-scale operation to ensure the matches proceed without incident, including the presence of SWAT teams and plainclothes officers inside the ground.
"The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," the ICC official said.
"We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," he added.
The report also mentioned that the parkland around the temporary stadium will be closed to the public on match days to prevent potential drone attacks. Fans attending the games will undergo airport-style security scans before entering the stadium.
Pakistan is placed in Group A for the tournament, alongside India, Ireland, Canada, and the USA. They are set to play their first match against the United States on June 6 in Dallas.
