Potential candidates for Pakistan ODI and T20I captaincy revealed after Babar's resignation

Sources within the PCB have indicated that Babar's removal from the T20I captaincy was recommended by the head coach of the white-ball team, Gary Kirsten. In his report following the T20 World Cup, Kirsten expressed a desire for Babar to concentrate solely on the ODI format.

During discussions with Babar, Kirsten outlined his vision for the team's future, particularly with an eye on the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. However, the 29-year-old reportedly opposed the idea of captaining just one format and felt sidelined from key decision-making, leading to growing dissatisfaction within the squad.

Kirsten's preference for Mohammad Haris as the T20I captain is believed to stem from his aim to promote young talent and encourage a more aggressive playing style. Haris has demonstrated significant potential in the shorter format and is viewed as a promising leader for the future.
