A petition has been filed seeking the arrest of India’s skipper Virat Kohli in the Madras High Court for the charge of promoting gambling. The petition also seeks the arrest of Indian actress Tamannah for the same charge.
The petition was filed by a Chennai based advocate who is urging the court for a ban on online gambling apps which, according to the petitioner, is getting the young generation addicted to gambling.
The petition clarifies that celebrity endorsements such as that of Kohli and Tamannah portray gambling as an exciting activity.
As per reports in Times Now, the petitioner wants both the stars to be sent behind the bars for promoting gambling.
Kohli is considered by many as one of the greatest cricketers to ever play the sport and has a long career ahead of him because of his current age. The 31-year-old has featured in 86 Tests, 248 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 82 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) while scoring 7240 runs, 11867 runs and 2794 runs for his country so far.
The hearing for the case has been set for Tuesday, August 4.
