With this win, Quetta Gladiators moved to the top of the PSL 10 points table
Hasan Nawaz played a match-winning knock to help Quetta Gladiators beat Islamabad United by two wickets in a last-over thriller in the 23rd match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 at Gaddafi Stadium.
Chasing a target of 158, Quetta secured victory on the second-last ball of the match, thanks to Hasan’s unbeaten 64 off 41 balls. His innings included two fours and four sixes, with the winning runs coming off a huge six against Muhammad Shahzad.
The Gladiators started their chase strongly, with skipper Saud Shakeel and Finn Allen scoring 28 runs in the first three overs. However, both openers were dismissed in quick succession — Allen made 20, while Saud scored 7 off 8 balls.
Rilee Rossouw and Hasan Nawaz then built a steady 52-run stand to stabilize the innings. Rossouw looked in good touch, scoring 27 from 24 balls, but was run out due to a miscommunication. His dismissal triggered a collapse, and Quetta were reduced to 117 for 7 in 16 overs.
Hasan Nawaz found a key partner in Mohammad Wasim Jr, and the two added 26 crucial runs before Wasim was dismissed on the last ball of the 19th over.
With 15 runs needed from the final over, Hasan kept his cool. After surviving three dropped catches, he smashed Shahzad for a six, stole two runs, and then sealed the win with another towering six over deep square leg.
For United, Naseem Shah and Salman Irshad took two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz, Jason Holder, and Salman Ali Agha picked up one each.
Earlier, Islamabad United posted 157 for 9 after being asked to bat first. Their openers Sahibzada Farhan and Kyle Mayers gave a solid start with a 58-run partnership. Mayers scored 22 off 17 balls before being bowled by Abrar Ahmed.
Faheem Ashraf starred with the ball for Quetta, claiming 4 wickets for just 25 runs. He removed Colin Munro and Salman Ali Agha in the same over and later dismissed Andries Gous and Shahzad to dent United’s progress.
Farhan scored 39 off 24 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes. Mohammad Nawaz yop-scored with a valuable 49 off 34 deliveries, including five sixes, and shared a 39-run stand with Haider Ali for the seventh wicket.
Despite some late contributions, United could not build momentum and were restricted under 160, which proved just short in a thrilling finish.
With this win, Quetta Gladiators moved to the top of the PSL 10 points table.
