He confirmed his exit via Instagram story, thanking the team and wishing them luck
Islamabad United have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 Qualifier 2 clash, as experienced English opener Alex Hales has left the squad due to personal commitments.
Hales confirmed his departure through an Instagram story, thanking the franchise for the opportunity and wishing his teammates luck for the remainder of the tournament. According to sources, the 36-year-old was available for only two matches this season before heading back to England.
He made an instant impact in his first game against Karachi Kings on May 19, smashing a stunning 88 off just 35 balls. His explosive knock featured six fours and eight sixes, helping Islamabad post a massive 251-5 — their highest total of the season.
However, Hales couldn’t replicate that performance in the Qualifier 1 against Quetta Gladiators, falling for a second-ball duck in a chase of 210. Islamabad were bowled out for 179, losing by 30 runs and missing out on a direct spot in the final.
United will now face the winner of the Eliminator between Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars in Qualifier 2, to be held on May 23 at Gaddafi Stadium. The winner will advance to the grand final, scheduled for May 25 in Lahore.
Despite Hales’ absence, Islamabad still have a solid squad led by Shadab Khan and backed by key players including Naseem Shah, Imad Wasim, Colin Munro, and Jason Holder, as they aim for a spot in the PSL 10 final.
