Punjab Kings are considering a change in leadership for the upcoming 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by appointing an Indian head coach. This move comes after observing the success of Indian coaches like Rahul Dravid with the Indian team, Ashish Nehra with Gujarat Titans, and Gautam Gambhir and Chandrakant Pandit with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Trevor Bayliss, the current head coach, has seen mixed results with the team over the past two years. While the franchise does not have an issue with Bayliss' coaching style, his recent track record in T20 cricket has been a concern. His stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sydney Thunder, and most recently Punjab Kings, have not yielded the desired results, leading the franchise to consider a change.

Reports indicate that Bayliss’ contract with Punjab Kings ended after the IPL 2024 season, and the management has not made any efforts to renew it. The franchise is exploring the option of promoting Sanjay Bangar, currently the Director of Cricket Development, to the head coach position. However, they are also keeping other options open, especially with a mega auction on the horizon.

In another development, Gujarat Titans might part ways with their successful coaching duo of Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki. Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh is rumored to be in talks with the franchise, though it remains uncertain if he will return to cricket. Since his retirement, Yuvraj has focused on his brand and business, while also mentoring young players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.

Rahul Dravid is also a highly sought-after coach in the market, with several franchises interested in signing the former India coach. Additionally, Mumbai Indians might part ways with Mark Boucher after finishing 10th in IPL 2024, and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are looking to fill multiple roles following a significant exodus to the national team.
