Rauf's central contract was terminated just two days before the commencement of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL)
Fast bowler Haris Rauf was penalised by Pakistan Cricket Board, following a probe into his refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the tour of Australia 2023-24.
His central contract was terminated just two days before the commencement of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The untimely announcement of the contract termination drew criticism, with Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana expressing dissatisfaction, stating that the timing was unnecessary.
"The timing of that announcement was wholly unnecessary. There was no Pakistan series coming up, or any emergency situation that necessitated the announcement two days before the PSL. Whatever the logic was, the timing was really bad. It was a huge blow psychologically for him, because his whole life's main aim is playing for Pakistan," Rana told ESPNCricinfo.
"Rauf's our premier bowler, our highest wicket-taker after Shaheen Afridi. To publicly humiliate him and issue a press release announcing the termination of his central contract, I have never seen this happen anywhere," he added.
Rana drew attention to the lack of communication, asserting that the manner of termination lacked professionalism and went against standard employee treatment.
"I would never treat my employees like that. The employee at least has the right for you to call, email or message them. None of that happened with Rauf, and it was pathetic. It was really poor management," Rana said.

Furthermore, Rauf faced an additional restriction, as he was barred from participating in any overseas T20 league until June 30, 2024.
