By reaching 250 runs in a single Champions Trophy edition, Ravindra became the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in a single edition of the tournament
New Zealand's opening batter, Rachin Ravindra, set a new record during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Ravindra had a strong start in the final, scoring 25 runs off 14 balls in the first five overs. His impressive performances throughout the tournament helped him break a long-standing record held by former captain Kane Williamson.
By reaching 250 runs in a single Champions Trophy edition, Ravindra became the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in a single edition of the tournament. Before this, Williamson held the record with 244 runs in the 2017 edition, which he scored in three matches with one century and two half-centuries.
Before the final, Ravindra had already scored 226 runs in three matches, including two centuries in the matches played in Pakistan. His consistency helped him surpass Williamson’s total and create history for New Zealand.
Here are the highest run-scorers for New Zealand in a single Champions Trophy edition:
- Rachin Ravindra – 251 (2025)
- Kane Williamson – 244 (2017)
- Roger Twose – 201 (2000)
- Tom Latham – 191 (2025)
- Martin Guptill – 191 (2009)
- Kane Williamson – 190 (2025)
- Stephen Fleming – 184 (2006)
While Ravindra now holds the record for most runs in a single edition for New Zealand, the overall record in Champions Trophy history belongs to West Indies' Chris Gayle. He scored 474 runs in the 2006 edition, hitting three centuries in eight matches.
Ravindra is currently leading the run-scoring charts in the 2025 tournament and has a chance to equal Gayle’s record for the most centuries in a single edition.
For those unfamiliar, Ravindra made his ODI World Cup debut for New Zealand in 2023, where he also scored three centuries, proving himself as one of the most promising young batters in world cricket.
