Pretoria Capitals have signed Afghanistan's talented wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the upcoming SA20 2025 season. Gurbaz, known for his dynamic T20 performances, will reunite with Jonathan Trott, who recently became the Capitals' new head coach. Trott previously led Afghanistan to their first-ever World Cup semi-final in June this year.
At just 22 years old, Gurbaz has already established himself as a T20 globetrotter. He is currently playing for Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada. This will be his first stint in the SA20, but he is no stranger to the Capitals' franchise, having played for their ILT20 team, Dubai, during the 2023-24 season. In that tournament, he scored 146 runs in eight innings with an average of 18.25 and an impressive strike rate of 155.31. He also brings valuable IPL experience, having won the title with Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this year.
Gurbaz's recent form in T20 internationals is promising as well. He was the top run-scorer in the 2024 T20 World Cup, amassing 281 runs in eight innings at an average of 35.12 and a strike rate of 124.33.
Joining the Pretoria Capitals, Gurbaz will play alongside notable cricketers such as Wayne Parnell, Will Jacks, Rilee Rossouw, Jimmy Neesham, and Anrich Nortje, who have been retained for the upcoming season. England batter Ollie Pope is another new addition to the team.
The Capitals welcomed Gurbaz with a warm message on social media: "Can't wait to see our Afghan star in action at Centurion. Welcome, Gurbaz!"
With such a strong lineup, the Pretoria Capitals are gearing up for an exciting SA20 2025 season.
