Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has declined a bonus offered to him by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). The bonus for Dravid was significantly higher than what the rest of the support staff was set to receive. In a show of fairness, Dravid turned down the extra money.
According to the BCCI’s plan, Dravid was to receive INR 5 crore, while the support staff, including bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip, and batting coach Vikram Rathour, were allocated INR 2.5 crore each.
“Rahul wanted the same bonus money as the rest of his support staff. We respect his sentiments,” a source told the Hindustan Times. This isn't the first time Dravid has prioritized equality over personal gain. In 2018, while coaching India’s U19 World Cup winning team, he exhibited similar principles.
Dravid's actions reflect his commitment to creating a team environment where everyone is treated equally. These values were instrumental in leading India to an ICC title under his guidance.
Furthermore, with Rahul Dravid's tenure ending after the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has announced that former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir will be the new head coach. Gambhir was a strong contender for the role, especially after leading the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title as a mentor.
