According to sources, waterproofing work at the stadium could not be completed before the tournament but is expected to be finalized soon after the event
The recent rain in Lahore has exposed the construction quality of Gaddafi Stadium, which was renovated in record time ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Gaddafi Stadium was prepared for the prestigious tournament with round-the-clock work, earning a record for its rapid completion. However, the rainy weather in Lahore has revealed serious flaws in its construction.
During a brief spell of rain lasting less than 30 minutes, the roof of a VIP enclosure’s restroom started leaking, raising concerns over the stadium’s readiness.
It is important to note that after the stadium's renovation, PCB Chairman held a ceremony to honor the workers involved in the project.
Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan and renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle have criticized the PCB for its failure to dry the ground efficiently after the rain.
Vaughan questioned Pakistan’s infrastructure and financial capabilities, suggesting that the ICC should intervene if necessary. Bhogle also raised concerns, stating that if the Champions Trophy final were to be played in Lahore and rain lasted for just 30 minutes, the match would be pushed to a reserve day, which is not an ideal situation. He emphasized the need for a better drainage system.
According to sources, waterproofing work at the stadium could not be completed before the tournament but is expected to be finalized soon after the event.
