Pakistan will face off against Sri Lanka in the Super 4 clash of Asia Cup 2023 on Thursday in Colombo.
The stakes are incredibly high, as the winner of this encounter will secure a spot in the final, set to take place on September 17 against India. However, an unwelcome guest threatens to spoil the excitement.
According to weather forecasts, rain clouds loom large over the aforementioned clash, and the prospects of play are grim.
The Weather Channel reports an 86 percent likelihood of rain on September 14 in Colombo, casting doubt over the match's outcome.
On the contrary, AccuWeather anticipates that the match will be played under cloudy skies from start to finish. However, the primary worry continues to be the continuous risk of rainfall, with statistics indicating an 84 percent probability of precipitation and 95 percent likelihood of cloud cover throughout the day. While rain is projected to decrease as the day unfolds, the presence of clouds is expected to persist overhead.
Adding to the element of unpredictability, there are forecasts of thunderstorms at approximately 3 pm, coinciding with the match's slated commencement.
Unlike the Super 4 encounter between India and Pakistan, which had a reserve day to accommodate any disruptions, this match has no such luxury.
If the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan match is washed out due to rain, Sri Lanka will qualify for the final as they hold a superior net run rate (-0.200) compared to Pakistan (-1.892).
