Raja opens up about chat with Babar amid captaincy speculations

Pakistan's all-format skipper, Babar Azam, is reportedly contemplating stepping down from the captaincy role in white-ball cricket. Babar has sought advice and guidance on his future, engaging in discussions with former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and close associates.

During a training session at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on Friday, Babar had a private conversation with Raja regarding his captaincy. Expressing concern and disappointment with the conduct of the PCB and former cricketers, Babar is said to have received counsel from those close to him, urging him to relinquish leadership roles in all three formats.

Commenting on the situation, Raja opened up about his private conversation while talking on a local news channel.

"Babar seemed to be very frustrated and looked depressed. I felt really bad. The conversation regarding his captaincy was private, and I don't want to make it public,” Raja said.

It's important to note that Pakistan is on the verge of not making it into the final four of the World Cup 2023. The team led by Babar has secured victories in four matches and faced defeats in an equal number. Notable setbacks against India, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan have led to speculation about the captaincy.
