Pakistan won the home series against New Zealand and came out all guns blazing; however, failed to retain its number one position on ICC ODI Team Rankings.

The national team could only rule the charts only for 48 hours as their sway came to an end when Kiwis took over Pakistan and defeated them by 47 runs in the National Bank Stadium on Sunday.

Former chairman PCB and Pakistani cricketer, while talking on his YouTube channel, stated that Pakistan fails to turn up on big occasions. Despite claiming the series, it would have been added pleasure if the national side had whitewashed the Blackcaps.

"Pakistan had a great chance to whitewash the series but that didn't happen, unfortunately - so there will be some remorse attached to it. We had a chance against England as well when we reached 3-2, but then eventually, they [England] claimed the T20 series. Similarly, when we played Asia Cup against Sri Lanka, we lost a pool match to them and then subsequently lost the finals. Pakistan cannot cash on major opportunities that come its way," Raja said.

The national team had quite a year where it came so close but couldn't unfold the winning ribbon -be it Asia Cup final, T20 World Cup final, or home T20I series against England. Yesterday again was one of those unfortunate days when Pakistan did seal the series to their name but couldn't whitewash the otherwise depleted New Zealand side.
