Razzaq was faced with the choice between Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim Jnr for the fast-bowling all-rounder position in the Pakistan team
Abdul Razzaq, the former Pakistan cricketer and renowned all-rounder, has shared his opinion on the selection of Pakistan's all-rounders for the 2023 World Cup.
When faced with the choice between Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Wasim Jnr for the fast-bowling all-rounder position in the Pakistan team for the mega event, former cricketer made the decision to opt for Faheem. Razzaq believes that Faheem Ashraf's experience makes him a valuable asset for the Men in Green.
"If we judge experience-wise, then Faheem Ashraf should go [for World Cup]," Razzaq said on a local TV channel.
However, Razzaq also expressed his concerns regarding the selection and development of Wasim Jnr, another promising all-rounder in the national team. Razzaq believes that Wasim Jnr was brought into the Pakistan team too early without sufficient exposure to domestic cricket.
"If we talk about Mohammad Wasim Jnr, we brought him from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I think he was selected for Pakistan team too early," he said.
"Wasim Jnr should have played more domestic cricket and bowled longer spells over there before getting selected. Now, he plays few matches for Pakistan and then sits out in the rest of the matches. You can never groom a player like that," he added.
