The ongoing Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has set a new all-time record for spectators in Australia.

The match broke an 87-year-old record set in 1937 when 350,034 spectators attended a Boxing Day Test between Australia and England at the same venue. That historic match was played under the captaincy of Don Bradman.

In the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy Boxing Day Test, 87,242 fans attended on the first day, and by the first session of the fifth day, the total attendance had reached 351,104, surpassing the previous record.

It is worth noting that the MCG also hosted 90,293 spectators during the T20 World Cup 2022 clash between Pakistan and India, marking another milestone for the iconic stadium.
