The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clearly told the franchises, according to sources, that June is the only window for the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six.

If the matches don’t take place, during the month of June, then cancelling the league will be the only option which would lead to major financial losses.

The PSL 6 was postponed after multiple Covid-19 cases, among players and support staff, on March 4. The remaining matches will resume on June 1 with the final scheduled for June 20.

According to details, all six franchises had asked the PCB, few days back, to shift the remaining matches to UAE bearing in mind the rising Covid-19 cases in Pakistan. Further discussion on the matter took place in a virtual meeting on Friday, where PCB and franchises discussed the future of remainder of the tournament. PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and Chief Executive Wasim Khan were also present during this meeting.

After getting green signal from National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), over shifting matches to UAE, the PCB had already contacted the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to discuss the arrangements. If ECB gets local government’s permission and logistic issues are resolved, then shifting matches to UAE will be easily done.

The franchises are torn over choice of venue for the event, which includes Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Some believe that adherence to Covid-19 SOPs is strictly done in Abu Dhabi so that will be an ideal venue. While other want matches to take place in Dubai.

One team owner also suggested name of Sri Lanka for the remaining matches but that was rejected.

If things don’t go according to plan, with regards to shifting matches to UAE, then PCB will consult the NCOC, once again, after Eidul Fitr holidays. Although, that would significantly reduce chances of the event taking place.

The PCB will share details about rise in costs, due to hosting matches in UAE, with the franchises during a governing council meeting during the next few days.

Sources have also revealed that franchise owners are over the moon, after PCB accepted their request to shift matches to UAE. They believe that holding matches in Karachi, due to worsening Covid-19 situation, is not possible. Some board officials are also happy, over this proposal, as it would result in a foreign trip and allowances.
