In Wood's place, Leicestershire's 20-year-old left-arm fast bowler, Josh Hull, has been called up for the remaining two Tests
England's fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out for the rest of the Test series against Sri Lanka due to a right thigh muscle strain, as confirmed by scans, the team management announced on Sunday.
Wood, whose career has frequently been marred by injuries, sustained the injury on the third day of England's five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old speedster was forced to leave the field just two balls into his 11th over.
Wood did not play on Saturday as England secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, winning with more than a day to spare.
In Wood's place, Leicestershire's 20-year-old left-arm fast bowler, Josh Hull, has been called up for the remaining two Tests.
Hull, standing at 6ft 7in (2m), has been a key player in Leicestershire's bowling lineup in recent seasons and played a pivotal role in their 2023 One-Day Cup final victory.
England also have fast bowler Olly Stone in the squad, who did not feature in the Manchester Test.
The team is already without their regular captain, Ben Stokes, who was sidelined by a torn hamstring, leading to batsman Ollie Pope being appointed as the stand-in skipper.
England squad: Ollie Pope (Captain), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Dan Lawrence, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes
