The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revived international cricket in Pakistan and it started with hosting HBL PSL on home soil. However, it came at a price and it has been revealed that Punjab government spent Rs. 2.17 billion to ensure that.
As per the documents, the Punjab government spent around Rs. 330 million on arranging security lights, towers, and wires, fuel for generators, transportation, security cameras, walk-through gates, tents, chairs, meals, and refreshments during the Australia series in Lahore alone.
Similarly, around Rs. 50 million were spent on similar arrangements during the Rawalpindi Test match whereas roughly Rs. 100 million were spent to ensure that the T20I and ODI series were held seamlessly.
The information further revealed that at least Rs. 500 million were spent on arrangements to hold the HBL PSL 7's Lahore leg, which laid the foundation for PCB to build upon.
The New Zealand's tour of Pakistan and the National T20 Cup back in 2021 combined cost the Punjab government Rs. 30 million.
To host the South African team, a sum of around Rs. 110 million was quoted whereas Rs. 66 million were paid for the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in the province, while Rs. 747 million were paid for the deployment of Pakistan Rangers troops during these events.
