Renowned ICC match official Richard Illingworth has been awarded the prestigious David Shepherd Trophy as the ICC Umpire of the Year 2024. This marks the fourth time the former England cricketer has won the award, having previously claimed it in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

Illingworth’s cricket journey is remarkable, transitioning from an international player to one of the most respected umpires in the game. As a player, he represented England in nine Tests, taking 19 wickets and scoring 128 runs, and played 25 ODIs, claiming 30 wickets.

After retiring, Illingworth pursued umpiring, a career that has seen him officiate in 74 Tests, 93 ODIs, and 35 T20Is to date.

The David Shepherd Trophy, introduced in 2004 and named after the legendary English umpire, celebrates excellence in umpiring. Illingworth joins an elite group of officials, including Simon Taufel, who won the award five consecutive times (2004–2008), and Aleem Dar, who claimed it three times (2009–2011).
