Ponting highlighted the doubts that surrounded the Bumrah's return from a series of injuries
Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting has heaped praise on India’s premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, acknowledging his remarkable journey and extraordinary comeback.
Ponting’s admiration comes in light of Bumrah’s pivotal performances in the T20 World Cup 2024 which took place in the USA and West Indies.
Reflecting on the pacer's career, Ponting highlighted the doubts that surrounded the fast bowler’s return from a series of injuries.
Despite concerns about whether Bumrah could reclaim his status as a leading bowler, his recent performances have silenced critics and demonstrated his exceptional skill.
In an interview with ICC, the former Australian captain expressed his high regard for Bumrah: “There might have been some fears a couple of years ago when the injuries came in and ‘would he come back the same?’, but I think he’s come back better. I’ve said it for a long time; he’s probably been the best multi-format bowler there’s been in world cricket for the last five or six years.”
He further praised Bumrah’s consistency and skill: “If I watch what he did in the T20 World Cup—the pace is still there; there’s nothing that’s changed with the accuracy or what he can deliver. The skillset is all the same. He’s getting better year on year. So, he would rank right up there. So, when you’ve got that skillset and the consistency that he has, then you’re going to be a great player.”
Bumrah’s journey back to the top has been nothing short of inspirational. After enduring a challenging rehabilitation period, the 30-year-old pacer returned with renewed vigor, leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
His exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Tournament title, showcasing his lethal pace, pinpoint accuracy, and strategic brilliance.
