Rohit Sharma involved in controversial incident during Ranji Trophy match

India captain Rohit Sharma, representing Mumbai in the Ranji trophy 2024-25, faced a tough outing against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA cricket ground. After a disappointing three-run knock in the first innings, the experienced opener managed 28 runs off 34 balls in the second innings before being dismissed.  

The match saw a dramatic moment on Day 2 when Jammu and Kashmir players raised concerns about the effectiveness of the ball. The bowlers complained to the umpires, leading to a heated argument. The tension escalated further when Rohit Sharma joined the discussion, expressing his displeasure over the decision to change the ball. The situation was eventually resolved, with the umpires replacing the ball, and Jammu and Kashmir’s Paras Dogra inspecting the new one closely.  

The incident occurred in the ninth over when Yashasvi Jaiswal was on strike. After a leg bye delivery from Auqib Nabi, the Jammu and Kashmir players raised their objection, prompting Rohit to step in and discuss the matter with the umpires.  

Despite showing glimpses of aggression with three sixes and two fours, Rohit’s innings ended in the 14th over. Attempting a big shot down the ground off Yudhvir Singh, he mistimed a length delivery, resulting in an inside edge. Abid Mushtaq pulled off a remarkable one-handed catch at midwicket, dismissing the Mumbai captain.
