In a strategic move ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, India has welcomed Ryan ten Doeschate as the new assistant coach.
Ten Doeschate joined the Indian squad on July 25 in Pallekele, where the team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, arrived on July 23 and has already commenced preparations for the upcoming three-match T20I series starting July 27.
The revamped coaching staff also includes Gautam Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip, and Sairaj Bahutule.
Notably, Bahutule has joined the team on a temporary basis and is anticipated to be replaced by former South African pacer Morne Morkel, who is currently in Pretoria attending to a family matter. Morkel is anticipated to join the team before the series against Bangladesh.
Ten Doeschate’s appointment comes with a wealth of experience and was endorsed by Gambhir, who sees him as a crucial addition to the coaching team.
Alongside Nayar, Ten Doeschate will serve as an assistant coach, with Gambhir opting to give them the freedom to work independently with each player, rather than assigning specific roles.
Both Ten Doeschate and Nayar played pivotal roles in Kolkata Knight Riders' successful 2024 IPL campaign and are expected to bring their winning mindset to the Indian team.
Following the T20I series, India will engage in a three-match ODI series beginning August 2. Senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul will rejoin the squad as the team looks to strengthen its lineup for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the series to ensure he is fully prepared for the 10 Test matches scheduled later in the season.
