Kagiso Rabada's outstanding performance helped South Africa secure a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Mirpur, marking their first Test win in Asia since 2014. Rabada's nine-wicket haul, including a crucial six-for in the second innings, played a pivotal role in bowling out Bangladesh for 307, leaving South Africa a target of 106 runs.

South Africa comfortably chased down the target in just 22 overs on the fourth day, moving up to fourth place on the World Test Championship table. Tristan Stubbs, batting at No. 3, stood out with an unbeaten 30, adapting well to the unfamiliar conditions. Although South Africa lost three wickets during the chase, including Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi, their aggressive approach ensured a swift victory.

South Africa's chase got off to a quick start as they hit 15 fours and two sixes, maintaining a scoring rate of nearly five runs per over. Bangladesh's left-arm spinner, Taijul Islam, who had taken five wickets in the first innings, tried to slow them down but couldn't contain South Africa's momentum. Taijul finished the match with figures of 8 for 165 but was unable to prevent his team’s defeat.

Earlier, Rabada set the tone on the fourth morning by taking the second new ball and quickly dismissing Nayeem Hasan to complete his 15th Test five-for. Rabada also celebrated his 300th Test wicket during this match, making it a memorable game for the pacer. Mehidy Hasan, who top-scored for Bangladesh with 97, was the last batter to fall, trying to ramp Rabada but was caught at slip.

This victory is South Africa's first Test win in Bangladesh since 2008, when they won both matches by an innings. The second Test in this series will begin next Tuesday in Chattogram. South Africa will then host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for four home Tests, giving them a strong chance to reach the World Test Championship final if they can continue their winning form.
