Former Pakistan chief selector Azhar Khan has endorsed Saim Ayub as the ideal choice to open the batting for Pakistan in T20Is. During a televised discussion on Wednesday, Khan emphasized Ayub’s ability to excel in the powerplay.

"Saim Ayub knows how to express himself with the bat, especially in the powerplay,” Khan remarked. "He [Saim Ayub] knows to negotiate with the short of the length. Saim Ayub also plays well through the off side,” he added.

Khan also raised concerns over the lack of consistency in team selection and called for a more structured approach.

“There seems to be a lack of clarity when it comes to selecting players for the national side,” Khan added. “You nullify your own decisions. It is crucial to have a clear strategy and to identify your top four batters,” he further added.

Saim Ayub’s performance in the first T20I against South Africa further validates his potential as a powerplay specialist. The left-hander smashed a blistering 31 off just 15 deliveries, including seven boundaries, setting the tone for Pakistan’s chase. His ability to score quickly and dominate bowlers early in the innings highlights his significance as a powerplay striker.

Saim’s innings demonstrated his skill in finding gaps and punishing loose deliveries, making him a valuable asset at the top of the order.
