Saim Ayub had suffered a right ankle fracture while fielding during the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa in early January
Pakistan opening batter Saim Ayub has returned to Lahore today ahead of the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after successfully completing his rehabilitation in London.
The left-handed batter is scheduled to undergo a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which will determine his availability for the upcoming PSL season.
Saim Ayub had suffered a right ankle fracture while fielding during the second Test between Pakistan and South Africa in early January. The injury ruled him out for 10 weeks, forcing him to miss the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The incident occurred when Saim attempted to field a ball hit by Ryan Rickelton during the seventh over of South Africa’s first innings. He dashed in to act as the relay fielder as Aamer Jamal tried to stop the ball from going to the boundary.
Unfortunately, Saim lost his balance and stumbled backward. Despite the efforts of medical staff, it was clear that he was in significant distress, and he had to be carried off the field after struggling to stand.
Now, after completing his rehabilitation, Saim is on the verge of returning to competitive cricket. Reports from the medical team in the UK indicate positive signs, raising hopes for his return to action soon.
After his fitness test at NCA Lahore, Saim will head to Karachi to celebrate Eid with his family. If he is cleared, he could make a comeback for his PSL franchise, Peshawar Zalmi.
