Former Pakistan captain believes that pace should not be the only criteria to judge a bowler
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that pace should not be the only criteria to judge a bowler.
While speaking on his official YouTube channel, the former left-hander said that the obsession with bowlers bowling at 140 km/h is annoying.
“Most of our bowlers [in the past] could bowl at 140 [km/h]. Rana Naveed and Rao Iftikhar were 140 [km/h], meanwhile Yasir Arafat and Abdul Razzaq were 145 [km/h] plus. Azhar Mahmood also bowled at 140 [km/h] also. But these bowlers were not considered genuine pacers,” said Butt.
“I don’t know from where this obsession for bowlers bowling at 140 [km/h] has come. People talk about this like we never had such bowlers in the past. Nobody talks about a bowler’s arm position, action, ability to pick up wickets or whether he can bowl at a consistent line and length,” he added.
