The former skipper criticized the focus on the pitch, asserting that it was not the real issue
Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has expressed his discontent following the national team's disappointing defeat to Bangladesh in first match of the ongoing Test series in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan's decision to field four frontline seamers and bench their primary spinner, Abrar Ahmed, backfired dramatically. The Bangladesh spinners exploited the conditions effectively, particularly in the second innings, leading to Pakistan's downfall.
Adding to the discontent, Pakistan's assistant coach Azhar Mahmood criticized the pitch, claiming it didn't behave as anticipated.
Butt, however, was unequivocal in his assessment of Pakistan's performance. On his YouTube channel, he lamented the team's failure across all aspects of the game and highlighted that the Bangladeshi pacers were faster and more effective than their Pakistani counterparts.
"Where should I start? Playing four fast bowlers, the declaration, the line and length, everything went wrong. I think this is the first time that the average speed of Bangladesh bowlers was higher than ours. They looked more fit than us. Our junior fast bowlers did better than our senior ones. So, there is a list of mistakes made by the team. Where should we start? Who should we pick and blame because the list goes on," Butt said.
Pakistan's collapse was swift, losing nine wickets in just two sessions on the final day. The former skipper criticized the focus on the pitch, asserting that it was not the real issue.
"Pitch was not the issue. The quality of bowling was. Our bowling coach said that the pitch didn't turn out the way we wanted. Bowlers also said that the pitch was not good. How does that make sense? especially when Pakistan got bowled out inside two sessions. Their pacers got the wickets of our top order batters before the spinners took the responsibility in the middle. So, this is a long list of mismanagement and incompetance," he said.
