Waqar Younis has been recently appointed as Adviser for Cricket Affairs to the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi
Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt expressed his thoughts on the appointment of Waqar Younis in a significant role within Pakistan cricket.
In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Butt acknowledged the legendary status of Younis, both as a former cricketer and as a coach.
"Waqar bhai has been my coach and is a legendary cricketer, there is no doubt about that. I am not in a position to advise him, I wish him all the very best for this role," Butt said.
However, Butt did not shy away from emphasizing the challenges and responsibilities that come with such a significant position. He highlighted the importance of making bold and decisive choices, urging Waqar Younis to leverage his vision to bring about positive changes.
"I really hope this time around he makes some decisions. He should do what is necessary and get it done. I think he should make correct decisions; if he has the vision, implement it," he further added.
Butt also stressed the need for fresh perspectives and actions within Pakistan cricket, subtly critiquing those who have maintained their positions without contributing effectively.
"Don’t go after people who have been there for ages and have done nothing. I think it’s a huge opportunity for him, not an easy one certainly. If he is able to make correct decisions, something better might come up," he concluded.
It is worth noting that Waqar Younis has been recently appointed as Adviser for Cricket Affairs to the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi has tasked Younis with managing cricket-related matters, starting with the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Younis will work closely with selectors and coaches to prepare for the Test series, which is set to begin on August 21.
