Former Pakistan cricket captain Salman Butt recently shared a funny memory from his time with the national team, involving his teammate Kamran Akmal.

During a discussion on a local news channel, Butt was asked to recall a memorable moment from his cricket career. He told a story about a time when Akmal was left stranded in open water by another teammate.

Butt explained that two players had taken a water scooter while in the West Indies. After traveling about five kilometers into the sea, one of the players, an opening batter, told his teammate that he wanted to take over the driving. To do this, they both had to switch positions, which meant one had to get off the scooter.

“But the opening batter took control of the scooter and rode off,” Butt said. He and former captain Younis Khan were watching from a distance. As the scooter approached the hotel rooms, Younis Khan asked, “Where is the other guy?”

The opening batter had forgotten about his teammate, Kamran Akmal, and left him behind in the sea. Butt and Khan had to return to the water, where they found Akmal struggling, wearing only a life jacket.

When the host asked for the names of the players involved, Butt revealed that it was Kamran Akmal who had been left stranded.

Butt, who represented Pakistan in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs, and 24 T20Is, is best known for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England. He was banned for 10 years from all formats of the game.
