The series concluded with Sri Lanka winning two out of three matches, including a decisive 110-run victory in the final ODI, marking a significant achievement for the home team.
Former captain and one of Sri Lanka’s most dominating batter, Kumar Sangakkara has expressed his pride in the team’s performance. He highlighted the resilience and determination shown by the players throughout the series.
“A great series win after 27 years. Well played @OfficialSLC it will take more hard work to keep improving but a great start. Well done the team and all involved,” Sangakkara posted on 'X.'
Jayawardene, another stalwart of Sri Lankan cricket, echoed Sangakkara’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of this series win in the context of Sri Lankan cricket’s resurgence.
“Congratulations @OfficialSLC on a fantastic series win against a very strong indian outfit.. let’s build on the positives,” Jayawardene posted.
In the series, Sri Lanka’s batting was spearheaded by Avishka Fernando, who scored a brilliant 96 runs in the third and final ODI, contributing significantly to the team’s total of 248 runs. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka also played pivotal roles in the batting lineup.
The bowlers, particularly Dunith Wellalage, who took 5 wickets in the final match, were instrumental in dismantling the Indian batting order, which collapsed for just 138 runs.
