Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has clarified his recent remarks, which had led to rumors about his retirement from international cricket.

Sarfaraz, who is currently mentoring the Dolphins in the Champions T20 Cup, faced questions about his future during a media session last week. When asked about his career, he replied, "Look, as far as my career is concerned. I think I don’t need to say anything. Nothing is left. I know what you are waiting for, and it will happen soon." This comment sparked speculation that he was considering retirement.

However, in a recent interview with a local news channel, the experienced wicket-keeper explained his position and future plans. Despite not being part of the squad for the South Africa tour, Sarfaraz made it clear that he is still active in cricket and open to any opportunities.

He also expressed his willingness to play for Pakistan in any role if given the chance, saying, "I’ve never demanded, ‘I want to bat here or there.’ If I am given the chance to play for the national team, I will gladly accept it" he said.

Sarfaraz emphasized that his decision to retire would be a personal one. He stated, "As far as leaving cricket is concerned, that is my personal decision. When I feel that I should quit cricket, I will quit" he added.

Since making his debut for Pakistan in 2007, Sarfaraz has been an important player in the team. He has represented the country in 54 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is, scoring 6,164 runs, including six centuries and 35 fifties.

One of his greatest achievements came in 2017 when he led Pakistan to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, defeating India by 180 runs in the final. He also holds the record for leading Pakistan to 11 consecutive T20I series wins, the highest by any captain of Pakistan.

Sarfaraz’s last international game was a Test match against Australia in 2023, where he scored seven runs. He was part of the Test squad for series against Bangladesh and England but did not play. His most recent white-ball match for Pakistan was in November 2021.
