Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz talks about Azam Khan's departure as he responds to Moin Khan's criticism of him
In the earlier trades ahead of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) seventh edition, it was announced that Azam Khan will be transferring to Islamabad United from the Gladiators.
This development came as a surprise to many but no clear explanation was provided at that time. However, Gladiators' captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has opened up about the transfer and answered some questions pertaining to the matter at hand.
"Azam Khan is Azam Khan because of Quetta Gladiators and all the credit is with Nadeem Omar," Sarfaraz said.
Moin Khan, who occupies the head coach role for Quetta Gladiators, had criticised Sarfaraz over his recent performances and somehow also wanted Azam to take the wicketkeeping duties of Gladiators.
However, Azam has been traded to Islamabad United but Moin Khan remains an integral part of the Gladiators’ franchise.
Responding to this, Sarfaraz remained diplomatic and handled the question with immense composure.
“I have learned a lot from Moin bhai and he taught me that playing with competition around is the best. Having learned this from him 10-12 years ago, I am trying to implement the same mentality here,” confessed Sarfaraz.
“Of course, he will have a soft corner [for Azam Khan] since he is the father. I respect his opinion but my aim has always been to respond with my performances and that is what I am aiming to do now,” said Sarfaraz.
