Shakeel acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed optimism about the squad’s strength
Quetta Gladiators' new captain, Saud Shakeel, has shared his plans for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around this season.
Quetta Gladiators were once known for their consistency, having reached two PSL finals and winning the title in 2019 under former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. However, the team struggled in the following seasons, failing to qualify for the playoffs in four consecutive editions.
In response to the team’s disappointing performances, the franchise made a leadership change, replacing Sarfaraz with South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw. Under Rossouw’s captaincy, the Gladiators broke their playoff drought but were eliminated in the first round after losing to Islamabad United.
Now, with Shakeel at the helm, the team hopes for better results. Shakeel acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed optimism about the squad’s strength.
“The last few seasons haven’t been good for Quetta and like all other teams we have tried our best to assemble a quality squad. We look forward to playing well and entertaining the fans this time around,” Shakeel said.
He also praised the team's balance and spoke about his excitement in leading the Gladiators this season. “Our squad looks well balanced and it will be exciting to lead Quetta Gladiators this season,” he added.
Quetta Gladiators will begin their PSL 10 campaign against Peshawar Zalmi on April 12 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
