Former Sri Lankan spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan, and former India cricketer, Virender Sehwag, have unveiled their picks for the semi-finalists of the highly anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 scheduled in India.

According to their predictions, the host India, Pakistan, Australia, and the defending champions England will emerge as the strongest contenders and progress to the last four stages of the tournament.

“I am looking forward to India vs England. India are one of the favourites because they are playing at home and they know how to win in India. This is going to be a very interesting match and I want to watch it,” Muralitharan was quoted as saying to Star Sports.

“The pitches will favour the sub-continental teams. India and Sri Lanka have good spin attacks. Afghanistan do not have a great batting line-up but they have very good spinners. In 2011, the two best teams came to the final and the better team won,” Sehwag said.

The fixtures list for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been released along with the 10 venues for the mega event that will span across 46 days later this year.

The World Cup kicks off on October 5 with a repeat of the 2019 Final as England take on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for Sunday October 15 in Ahmedabad. Their last encounter in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring affair with India achieving a huge victory in Manchester.

A total of 10 teams will compete for the prestigious title at 10 different venues from October 5 to November 19. The tournament will commence with an exciting opening match and conclude with a thrilling final, both of which will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
