Veteran Indian cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to be rested for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, where India will face the hosts in three ODIs and T20Is.

According to a local news report, these key players will be given additional time off to recuperate and prepare for the busy home season ahead.

A BCCI official confirmed that Kohli, Sharma, and Bumrah are unlikely to be part of the Indian squad for the Sri Lanka tour. However, they will rejoin the team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in September.

“Senior players can take some rest and get ready for the full cricket season ahead. Rohit, Virat and Bumrah have been offered rest and will join the team for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September,” the official said.

Kohli, Sharma, and Bumrah played crucial roles in India's recent T20 World Cup victory in the Caribbean.

Despite retiring from T20Is, Kohli and Sharma will continue to represent India in the longer formats. The BCCI plans to manage Bumrah's workload carefully, given his significant contribution to the team.

Currently, India is in Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series against the host nation. In the absence of the senior players, young batter Shubman Gill is leading the team.
