Shadab Khan called the PSL a platform for the nation’s top talent
Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan came out strongly in support of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during a post-match press conference following his team's six-wicket win over Karachi Kings at the National Bank Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
When asked about the PSL’s impact on Pakistan cricket—especially in light of some players underperforming at the international level despite good numbers in the league—Shadab gave a straightforward and passionate response.
“Your best local talent plays in the PSL. That means those who don’t perform or aren’t even part of the PSL are considered even lower in standard. So how can you judge fairly? As a nation, we’re too judgmental; this is something we need to overcome,” Shadab said.
Islamabad United continued their unbeaten run in the tournament with a solid performance against Karachi Kings. Chasing a modest target of 129, the three-time PSL champions got over the line in 17.1 overs, securing their fourth consecutive victory.
Shadab Khan led from the front with a calm and composed 47 runs off 40 balls, anchoring the chase. He was well supported by Sahibzada Farhan, who scored a quick 30 off 18 deliveries, and Azam Khan, who contributed 31.
Earlier, Karachi Kings were restricted to 128/7 in their 20 overs. Tim Seifert was the top scorer with 30 runs, but the Kings struggled against Islamabad's disciplined bowling attack. Shadab picked up 2 wickets for just 17 runs, while Imad Wasim (1/17) and Naseem Shah (2/29) also chipped in with important breakthroughs.
With this result, Islamabad United remain at the top of the PSL 10 points table with 8 points from 4 matches. The team looks in excellent form and will next face Multan Sultans on April 23 at Multan Cricket Stadium.
