The cricket fraternity, keeping its rivalries aside, has paid homage to Ben Stokes' retirement from one-day international format.

At just the age of 31, Ben Stokes - an World Cup winner - has called his time on his ODI career. Reacting to the news, Pakistan's leg-spinner Shadab Khan responded in the most heart-warming fashion.

Shadab responded to Stokes' retirement announcement and said that ODI cricket is bound to miss his services, as he is a great ambassador of the game.

"Congratulation on a wonderful ODI career, Ben Stokes. Best of luck with your Test career and other commitments. ODI cricket will surely miss you," wrote Shadab Khan on his Twitter account.

Stokes, who claimed that the decision to retire was not an easy one but it was not sustainable for him to play all formats with the same intensity, will play his last game in the England shirt on Tuesday in Durham.

Earlier this month, there was another sign of respect showcased by Pakistani cricketer and it was all-format captain Babar Azam. Babar tweeted publicly and stood behind a struggling Virat Kohli, which won the hearts of not only Pakistani but also of the fans from across the border.

Ultimately, cricket is a gentleman's game and if these ambassadors of the game are not going to uphold the values then who else is?
