Shaheen Afridi reacts after breaking ODI record

Pakistan pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi, etched his name in the ODI cricket history as the quickest pacer to reach 100 One Day International (ODI) wickets.

Afridi's 100th ODI wicket came during Pakistan's World Cup clash against Bangladesh when he dismissed Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hassan for a duck.

Afridi achieved this momentous milestone in his 51st ODI appearance, breaking the previous record held by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who reached 100 wickets in his 52nd match.

"Records are meant to be broken, and it's a happy occasion that we've set records for Pakistan," Afridi said after the game.

Shaheen ended up with three wickets in the aforementioned match as Pakistan bowled out Bangladesh for 204. Pakistan eventually chased the target with ease, losing only three wickets in the process.

"We still aim to finish in the top four. Our effort today was to finish the match quickly and improve the net run-rate," Afridi said.

"We didn't perform well in the last few matches as a team; there were some costly errors. Some catches were dropped, and better fielding could have led to better results. We are still in the tournament, and we will try to do well," he added.

The left-arm pacer also heaped praise on his fellow pacers, Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf, who took three and two wickets respectively.

"Mohammad Wasim bowled really well. Haris Rauf plays an important role in the white-ball team. Bowlers like Lockie Ferguson are also conceding runs, pacy bowlers go for runs here. Haris is working hard, has taken wickets, and we hope he'll improve even more," he concluded.
