Shaheen Afridi signs with Fortune Barishal for BPL 2024-25

Pakistan's star fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, is set to make his debut in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25. The reigning champions, Fortune Barishal, have secured Afridi’s services for the upcoming season. 

The 11th edition of the BPL will begin on December 30, with Fortune Barishal facing off against the league's newest franchise, Durbar Rajshahi, at the renowned Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. 

In an official statement, Fortune Barishal confirmed: "Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will play for Fortune Barishal in the upcoming BPL." 

The 24-year-old pacer, known for his consistency, has been signed directly by the franchise. Afridi is expected to feature in the first five matches of the tournament, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) granting him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play until January 15.

Fortune Barishal has also made several high-profile signings for the season, including international stars such as Kyle Mayers, Dawid Malan, Mohammad Nabi, Faheem Ashraf, Ali Mohammad, and Jahandad Khan. In addition, players like James Fuller, Pathum Nissanka, and Nandre Burger have been selected through the players' draft.

The franchise’s local roster boasts a strong contingent of experienced Bangladeshi players, including Tamim Iqbal, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tanvir Islam, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ripon Mondol, Ebadot Hossain, Nayeem Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Taijul Islam.

The seven-team tournament, which includes franchises like Dhaka Capitals, Chittagong Kings, Durbar Rajshahi, Fortune Barishal, Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders, and Sylhet Strikers, will conclude on February 7, 2025.
