Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has weighed in on India’s potential withdrawal from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan in February-March. Taking to social media platform X, Afridi emphasized the importance of putting aside political differences for the sake of cricket.

"Cricket is at a crucial crossroads, facing perhaps one of its greatest challenges since the late 1970s. Now is the time to put differences aside and let the game unite us. If countries once divided by history can come together in the Olympic spirit, why can't we do the same for cricket - and for the Champions Trophy?

As stewards of this game, we owe it to cricket to keep egos in check and focus on its growth and spirit.

I hope to see every team in Pakistan for CT25, to experience our warmth and hospitality, and to leave with unforgettable memories that transcend the field."

Afridi's message comes as Pakistan faces uncertainties about the hosting arrangements for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with India reportedly reluctant to send its team to Pakistan. India has proposed moving its matches to Dubai or the UAE under a hybrid model, a stance that has raised significant concerns within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In a formal letter addressed to the ICC leadership, the PCB has requested clarification on multiple points regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) stance. Among the questions posed, the PCB asked when the BCCI officially informed the ICC of its intent to avoid sending the Indian team to Pakistan, whether this refusal was documented in writing, and the specific reasons cited by the BCCI for the decision.

The PCB also requested any documented response from the ICC to the BCCI’s stance, seeking to understand the governing body's position on the matter. Sources indicate that once the PCB receives responses from the ICC, it plans to consult legal advisors and subsequently discuss the issue with the Pakistani government before determining its next steps.

If India’s withdrawal is confirmed, insiders suggest that the PCB may refuse to schedule any Champions Trophy matches against India, signaling a potential rift between the neighboring cricket boards.
