Shahid Afridi to miss charity match against West Indies

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will potentially miss the charity match between World XI and West Indies at Lord’s as he failed to recover from a lingering knee injury.

Afridi was bound to take part in a charity match, representing World XI against the West Indies, organized to raise money for the reconstruction of stadiums in the Carribbean after Hurricanes wreaked havoc in the region last year.

The flamboyant player, who brought the curtain down on his career in 2017, revealed the state of his injury in a tweet yesterday.

Afridi pointed out that after discussions with his doctor, they have concluded that the knee would require another three to four weeks to recover before he is fully fit.

The news comes as yet another blow for the World XI side which is already without star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakibal Hasan, who pulled out of the event due to personal reasons a few days back.

The World XI side will be captained by Eoin Morgan while the West Indies outfit will be led by Carlos Brathwaite.

World XI squad: Eoin Morgan(c), Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya, Thisara Perera, Rashid Khan, Luke Ronchi, Shoaib Malik, Tamim Iqbal and Sandeep Lamichhane.

West Indies squad: Carlos Brathwaite(c), Andre Fletcher, Rayad Emrit, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Andre Russell, Samuel Badree, Marlon Samuels and Kesrick Williams.
