Afghanistan opener was offered monetary rewards for underperforming
Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad has reported approach for spot-fixing to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to sources, Shahzad was asked to underperform in return for monetary rewards, during the Asia Cup in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
As soon as the offer was made, the Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman reported the matter to ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) with the latter gathering all the details in an interview.
The sources further stated that the approach was made an Afghanistan Premier League (APL) — which is bound to start from October 5 in Sharjah — franchise official before the beginning of the ongoing Asia Cup.
