Bangladesh cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, has been fined 10 percent of his match fee and has received a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Pakistan.

The incident took place on the fifth day of the match. In the 33rd over, Shakib threw the ball above Mohammad Rizwan's head in frustration after Rizwan briefly turned away to chat with the Bangladesh fielders. The act left Rizwan startled and drew disapproval from on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough, who spoke to Shakib about his conduct.

Shakib, who has also been named in an FIR related to a local murder case in Bangladesh, was penalized under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This article addresses inappropriate or dangerous actions involving cricket equipment, including throwing a ball at or near players or officials.

Along with the fine, Shakib has been given a demerit point, which will remain on his record for 24 months. Accumulating four demerit points within this period would result in a suspension from at least one international match. Currently, Shakib has no other demerit points, with his last ICC sanction dating back to December 2018 during a T20I against the West Indies.
